Fairy Knot

2024
An orb of entangled ceramic and weave hair, Fairy Knot is an experimental work completed in 2024. Fairy Knot has a moon jar inspired shape; large, round, and intricately hand carved with an interlocking pattern. Glaze drips down like water over the top of the form. Flowers peeking out from the ceramic suggest growth and beauty of entanglement.  A blue bird ascends from the top of the form like a baby blue phoenix. This piece is informed by my experience with having black hair. Fairy knots form at the end of curly hair strands and must be cut out or they will tangle more. They are a source of extreme frustration while detangling. A precious name for a persistent frustration.
